Volunteer Awards
2006 Volunteer of the Year - Patty Vogel and Jim Thurman
Patty Vogel receving her award from Carmelita Skeeter.
Two exemplary volunteers were honored at the 2006 Indian Health Care Resource Center (IHCRC) Annual Meeting held on November 27, 2006 at the Tulsa Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center. "This year it was just too hard to name just one Volunteer of the Year since two candidates were top notch and had gone above and beyond for IHCRC," said Edward Rogers, Credentialing and Volunteer Coordinator.
The Volunteer of the Year award is a special honor reserved for individuals that show a true commitment to IHCRC's mission and vision. Patty Vogel and Jim Thurman both demonstrated these qualities.
Patty Vogel
The first recipient is Patty Vogel and she is certainly committed to making a difference for her native peoples. Patty is the kind of person that lights up a room with her hearty laugh and caring nature.
She has been volunteering as a babysitter at Indian Health CareÕs Nurturing Families classes for over a year. She also has volunteered at the Dance of the Two Moons, IHCRC's annual fund-raiser and made telephone calls for silent auction donations. Patty's magnetic personality, "can do" attitude, love for Native American peoples and her endearing laugh collectively have won the hearts of all employees and patients alike.

Jim Thurman
The second recipient is Jim Thurman. Mr. Thurman has personality, capability, charm and a great sense of humor. Mr. Thurman came to IHCRC as an enrollee from AARP's Senior Community Service Employment Program. During his time at IHCRC, he has volunteered for Pharmacy in a "gatekeeper" or crowd control role and as a Mammography Clerk. More importantly, he was very successful in getting our patients to write letters of support earlier this year during our letter writing campaign regarding the Indian Health Care Improvement Act. He is always reliable and willing to do whatever job or task is required of him. And, to his credit, he always does it with a smile.
