Over 400 area leaders came together on Saturday, April 25th to support the 19th annual Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa's Dance of the Two Moons. The proceeds from this yearŐs event will help fund healthy, active summer camp experiences for our Native youth.

The Dance of the Two Moons was the first event to be held at the new Hard Rock Hotel and Casino at Cherokee Casino Resort. This year's event offered a fun-filled mix of activities that kept guests entertained all evening. The program began with an exceptional dinner and silent auction. Guests also experience the true artistry of traditional Native American dancers Mike and Lisa Pahsetopah and had the opportunity to join in the fun by participating in the Native American two-step. The Fabulous Mid-Life Crisis Band kept the party lively and guests dancing throughout the evening.

The funds raised that evening will provide 400 Native American children the opportunity to attend one of Indian Health Care's summer wellness camps. It takes $225 to provide a week of camp to a child and this cost includes, food, materials, staffing and camp location. These camps provide a place for Native children to learn the importance of well-balanced nutrition, exercise, teamwork, self-esteem, diabetes education and prevention, cultural awareness and communications and problem solving skills.

The Dance of the Two Moons fundraiser broke a personal fundraising record in large part by the support of presenting sponsor Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Representing the IHCRC Board of Trustees was board member Jay Anderson, DDS serving as the event chair. The Honorary Chair of the 2009 Dance of the Two Moons is Mr. Ken Lackey, Chairman of the Board for NORDAM. These strong supporters of Indian Health Care understand that many children do not have guaranteed access to quality health care. Our supporters share a commitment to help reduce health disparities and promote healthy living by increasing awareness of these critical issues to everyone in our community.
